CURVE neck rests are made to perform…and to last. The kits are easily adjustable - up and down, front to back, side to side, and the face of the CURVE can also be tilted. Once installed and adjusted the CURVE kit is rock-solid.
CURVE neck rests are built on a gently curved 2.25” x 6” base to cradle your neck. The Gen2 base is vacuum-formed ABS, nearly 60% lighter than the original models.
The fill is 2” thick, and is the highest grade soft density memory foam. The cover is breathable, water-resistant fabric with a poly cord and slider.
CURVE kit "L" and "T" towers are fabricated from durable 6061 thin wall aluminum tubing. All hardware is stainless, and the clamps are from Cateye with nylon spacers.
All CURVE neck rests, including Model 1 Catrike stock replacement CURVEs, are the same construction. The only difference is the mounting hardware.
First of all some Catrikes don't come with neck rests. For those that do we think the kit offers the strongest mounting system. The kit is easy to install and adjust, and once you have your CURVE neck rest set to your sweet spot the mount is absolutely rock solid and will stay where you put it. We do offer a choice because some customers want to keep the Catrike mounting hardware and the stock replacement CURVE is slightly less expensive. Most of our Catrike CURVE orders are for the kits.
There really is no one right mounting location for your neck rest.
Experimenting will help you find your sweet spot...the setting
where you're the most comfortable. We all have different riding
styles, are riding trikes with different seat back recline angles,
and have different body dimensions and structural imperfections.
When deciding how far forward or backward to set your new
CURVE keep in mind that some people like me ride with their
neck resting on the neck rest all the time. Others use it only
when they're climbing or napping.
There seems to be some general agreement about where to set
your CURVE vertically...meaning finding your sweet spot. Take a
look at the diagram.
Fair question. Each CURVE neck rest is made to order. There are many parts we try to keep on hand by hand...principally those common to all trike manufacturers and models. However, because there are so many trike manufacturers and each manufacturer has different models, fitting the most popular models involves cutting, filleting and welding towers of different dimensions. The Model 3 kits, in addition to fabricating the "T" towers, also involve sizing and then fabricating base tubes to fit each different trike model.
Making shims and shortening the QR bolts (which includes chasing threads) are also done by hand. And then there are all the custom fabrications. Once the towers and CURVE's are finished, each kit, including fitting the cover, is assembled by hand. Once assembled, all orders need to be packed and shipped.
And then there's all the office work - including a ton of correspondence with customers to make sure people are getting what they need and want. All the embroidery art is done by hand which includes designing, correspondence with customers, Jason (the digitizer), Sandi (the embroiderer) and Zubin (who sews each embroidered cover.
Then there's keeping the queue current and accurate, taking phone calls, invoicing and all the rest of the accounting which I absolutely hate. And then there's ordering and traveling to the mainland to pick up parts and supplies.
So far no big deal right? Well here's the real issue...this is a micro enterprise. I'm the only one here.
Hopefully this doesn't sound like complaining, cause I'm not. There's much here I really love. And I'm enjoying the challenge of seeing if it's possible to operate a small manufacturing business that provides high quality products in a reasonable time while still having plenty of time to play and hang out with my partner, Travis, my family and my good friends. Is it possible? It's my plan to know very soon.
The new CURVE comes with TWO pieces of memory foam, each with a different
density. Both the pink and blue memory foam are the same composition.
The blue foam is medium soft and the pink is soft.
We offer both so customers can choose the one they find the most comfortable
and suited to their riding style. They can easily be swapped since they're secured
to the neck rest base with hook and loop material. And it's always nice to have
an extra.
The Gen2 CURVE is the same width as the original and it has the same 2" thick memory foam fill. The cover is still breathable
and water-resistant.
However now it's 2.25" tall versus 3" for greater fit and comfort.
The Gen2 CURVE weighs LESS THAN HALF the original.
The new base is vacuum-formed from black textured ABS.
Rivnuts hold brackets securely and make the neck rest
easily adjustable.
The memory foam pads are attached with hook and loop tape and can
be removed and swapped easily.
The new Model 1 brackets are smaller, easily adjustable and anodized by
TerraCycle.
